Are you looking for a tree change?
The Region
Picnic Real Food Bar is part of the newly built North Stores food, art and nature precinct on Tamborine Mountain in the spectacular Gold Coast hinterland. At 600 metres above sea level and with its temperate climate (usually between five to eight degrees cooler than the surrounding lowlands), the mountain is a popular tourist destination, known for its rainforests, national parks, bushwalks and incredible views. Tamborine Mountain is only a short drive east to the pristine beaches of the Gold Coast – Australia’s fastest growing, young city – and it is part of the Scenic Rim region of South East Queensland, voted one of the world’s top ten regions to visit in 2022 by Lonely Planet. It’s a weekender or daytripper’s delight.
As well, Tamborine Mountain is an hour south of Brisbane; it’s close to both the Gold Coast and Brisbane airports; and it’s only 90 minutes from the Northern Rivers region of NSW, including Byron Bay and the beautiful hinterland. While it is close to everything, the mountain feels like a sanctuary. We have tank water, high rainfall and some of the most fertile soil in Australia – perfect for growing vegies. We also boast some of the best schools in the country.
The Place
Picnic Real Food Bar is one of the stores in the recently completed North Stores development in the main street of Tamborine Mountain. The whole development is architecturally designed.
As well as Picnic, North Stores includes a purpose-built event and workshop space, and art and ceramic retail studios, with two tenancies yet to be leased to value-aligned businesses. We’re installing a closed-loop compost system and landscaping the grounds, which will include vegetable and flower gardens. It’s a fresh and contemporary development with sustainability top of mind.
Picnic Real Food Bar favours local and seasonal produce, direct from mountain growers wherever possible. The bar is stocked daily with freshly made salads, house-baked pastries and a range of healthy, wholefood, gluten-free and vegan options. Picnic is currently open 8am to 3pm Wednesday to Sunday, with the occasional pop-up event: think Sunday sundowner charcoal BBQs and Friday night cook-ups on the deck.
We’ve been open for almost 12 months now. Our systems are in place and we have a strong and capable small team. We value our staff and encourage a happy, healthy and flexible work environment. Our kitchen is fully air-conditioned, with stone work benches, induction hobs, Combi ovens, a walk-in coldroom and plenty of space. The front of house has beverages on tap; a large glass, custom-made, refrigerated display cabinet; a La Marzocco Linea three group coffee machine using micro roastery Reuben Hills coffee. There is indoor seating as well as a large outdoor, undercover deck with a retractable awning, so we can bask in the sunshine under the trees, or be sheltered from the elements. We also encourage our takeaway customers enjoy a picnic at one of the many picnic tables and natural, scenic spaces on the mountain.
The Opportunity
Picnic Real Food Bar is looking for a dynamic hospitality couple who are wanting a tree change, with the option to purchase Picnic, a growing hospitality/tourism business, now or after an agreed trial period. We’re happy to mentor you to help you reach your career and business goals, if you choose. It’s an exciting and rare regional opportunity for the right couple.
Specifically, we’re after an experienced chef with a passion for local and seasonal produce, and a front-of-house manager/barista, with knowledge of natural wines. These are full-time salaried positions, working Wednesday to Sunday 7.30am–3.30pm, mostly. Occasional weekend pop-up charcoal BBQ sundowners on the deck, plus onsite and offsite catering events. We’re open to a four-day work week, with flexibility around school hours, if necessary.
Remuneration is to be negotiated for both positions. If you’re interested in the option to purchase Picnic Real Food Bar, we can discuss the timing and the option of a payment plan, if required. Price to be discussed privately.
The owners of North Stores and Picnic Real Food Bar have strong relationships with local real estate agents and will do our best to help you secure a rental property on the mountain or nearby.
